Welcome to the USS ORLECK Naval Museum where you can literally touch history and feel the spirit of the sailors who served aboard her!

The USS ORLECK DD886 is one of the most decorated US Navy ships since WWII, and as a member of the Historic Naval Ship Association (HNSA)  is one of 188 historic ships from 124 organizations in 13 countries that make up HNSA "Fleet".  We draw visitors from across the Nation and dozens of countries around the world. ORLECK joins the Historic Fleet in serving critical roles in preserving our maritime history and educating future generations of the service and sacrifice required to maintain our freedoms.

"Why Historic Naval Ships are Critical to our Nation": In his September 2015 address with this title at the Annual HNSA Conference Banquet aboard the fantail of the USS Iowa museum ship in San Pedro CA, Rear Admiral Sam Cox, US Navy (Ret.), Director of the Navy History and Heritage Command, stated:

". . . the role HNSA ships play is critical – their ships remind the American people how important the freedom of the sea is to our way of life. HNSA ships remind the American people about the historic and ongoing threats to that way of life. HNSA ships remind the American people about the valor and sacrifice of those who fought and died at sea to preserve our freedom." He further stated that the U.S. Navy values HNSA’s efforts to preserve and maintain these historic ships that "inspire future generations to service in the navies of their nations."

The Museum’s mission statement and its motto to "Remember, Honor, Restore, and Educate" mirrors the tenants of the founders of HNSA. Indeed, as stated in the HNSA Visitors Guide introduction, "…to step aboard one of these vessels is to step back in time for a brief moment, be transported to far off exotic sounding places such as the Normandy Beaches, Trafalgar, the Mediterranean, and Leyte Gulf and experience moments in history that shaped the world we live in." ORLECK, "Born on the Bayou" in Orange TX in 1945 and on display in Southwest Louisiana, continues to tell that story day after day to visitors and ship enthusiasts!

The USS ORLCK Naval Museum is a private a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (TAX ID 90-0507764) dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of USS ORLECK DD-886 and the sailors who served aboard her during her distinguished service on behalf of the Nation.  We must be self-supporting as we are not funded by the US NAVY or other Federal, state, or local entities.  We depend on individual and business donations, memberships, business sponsorships, tour admissions, laser tag play, grants, and special events such as the annual Haunted Ship to fund our operations, programs, and restoration and repair efforts.
