USS ORLECK TO HOST FATHER’S DAY “TIGER TOURS” AND BOOK SIGNING BY LAKE CHARLES AUTHOR
The USS ORLECK Naval Museum will hold Father’s Day “Tiger Tours” from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19th, 2016. The day’s events will include tours of the ship, refreshments, a raffle, and book signing. This is a special opportunity on Father’s Day for families to enjoy an outing on Southwest Louisiana’s only historic U.S. Naval Museum ship.“Tiger Tour” is the ORLECK’s version of the well-known “Tiger Cruise” of the U.S. Navy where families of Navy personnel stationed aboard a ship join them for a short cruise.
Lake Charles author Scott E. Raymond will have a book signing aboard the USS ORLECK for his new novel, Going Home: One Sailor’s Inner Search During the Turbulent Early 1970s. Going Home highlights the all-important father-son relationship, in this case, between two war veterans. The story also explores a young sailor’s attempt to find himself during a turbulent time in our nation’s history.
The book’s setting includes a ship on a Vietnam War deployment. Hosting the book signing is a natural tie-in with the ORLECK which was designated as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Museum Ship for the State of Louisiana for her distinguished service during the war.
“Tiger Tour” admission will include refreshments and a guided tour of the ship. Regular admission prices apply ($10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for military, $5 for children; and children age 5 and younger are admitted free with adult). Signed copies of Going Home are $18, with part of the proceeds going to the USS ORLECK.
