Save Our Ship (S.O.S.): SAVE THE ORLECK. The USS ORLECK Naval Museum needs your immediate support. Now is the time to step up to save the legacy of the USS ORLECK DD-886, one of the most decorated ships since WWII with a record of outstanding accomplishments during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Please donate or pledge TODAY to the “SAVE THE ORLECK” fundraising campaign. We need immediate support from individuals, businesses, and organizations across the local community, the state, and across the Nation to build up our capital funding to help secure the ORLECK’s future on the lakefront. Our goal is $350,000, which will give the Museum flexibility to seek dollar for dollar matching grants and professionally plan for dry dock repairs and building a dock once a property lease has been signed.
As has been documented in recent newspaper and television news reports, the dedicated and passionate USS ORLECK volunteers’ vision of a permanent home on the lakefront near the Isle of Capri Casino Hotel is not working out due to the proposed sale of the Isle property to Laguna Development Corp (LDC) of New Mexico. LDC has indicated in the news reports and correspondence with the Museum that they are not interested in relocating the ship next to the Isle of Capri Casino Hotel property. LDC is currently in the process of licensing with the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. Meanwhile, we are seeking an alternate location on the lakefront. Should LDC not be approved for the gaming license, we will readdress relocating to that property with the eventual buyer as we have an approved permit form the US Army Corps of Engineers for that site.
Thank you for helping to preserve the legacy of the USS ORLECK for future generations where visitors can “Touch History and Feel the Spirit” of our Nation!
